The 30 Days of Bike Tips (and other random outdoor tips)

During the month of December in 2023, I did a fun project to share useful tips and promote the Hungry Bear Gravel Race. Here are the videos! Interested in the Hungry Bear Gravel Race? I will be leading a 60 mile group, and it’s not too late to join :)

✨ RUSTY CHAINS + DRIVE TRAINS ✨
Tip # 1 : if your bike looks like this, don’t ride it. If you do, there’s a good chance your chain will either snap right off or you’ll just ruin the whole drivetrain and those are expensive, speaking from experience here 😆

🌱Be sure to use your plant based Mountain Flow Eco Wax to keep your bikes it tip top riding shape so they don’t end up like my bike lawn ornament 😉

✨ HELMET SAFETY✨
Tip #2: Wear a helmet, but wear it correctly 😉 and if you need to wear a hat, make sure it’s thin enough that it doesn’t impact the fit of your helmet - because that will decrease your helmet’s effectiveness.
📷 pic 1 was back when I obviously didn’t know how to properly wear a hat and helmet, ice chunk broke off while ice climbing and cracked my nose and gave me one of my worst concussions to date 🫠
📷 pic 2 is when I would occasionally forget helmets while rock climbing 🥲 luckily this was a great climb and no one got hurt.
📷 Pic 3: proper fit helmet + ready to go for any winter sport!
✨ REMINDER : it doesn’t matter how good you are at a sport, accidents happen - mitigate some risk and wear that helmet, correctly 😉

Tip #5 : learn to embrace humility or you’ll be humbled real quick 😉 whether you’re biking, skiing, snowboarding… whatever it may be, these have a way of grounding you 🫠 pun intended.

•learn to laugh
•brush off the dirt (or snow)
•bandage up those wounds
•take the lessons with you for next time 😊 but don’t let the falls keep you down and keep learning how to mitigate risk.

✨ I fall all of the time, it’s just part of it! But, if you want to get less hurt be sure to ride within your limits and practice. Although, keep in mind accidents do happen, even when we think we’re being “careful” or not riding hard.
