What’s been happening? If you’re completely unaware of what’s happening and you need an update, keep reading.
Minneapolis and Minnesota Communities have been hurting for weeks. Throughout the month of January 2026, there have been an overwhelming invasion of ICE agents (over 3,000 were deployed in less than 2 weeks). Since then, our neighbors, students, and community members have been illegally and inhumanely drug out of their homes and vehicles, from work, school places, and hospitals, beaten, pepper sprayed, gassed and kidnapped by ICE agents AND murdered by ICE agents, in broad daylight. Renee Good was murdered on January 7th, 2026 and now Alex Pretti on January 24th, 2026.
Let me be clear, these are not ICE’s first murders. But, these are 2 murders that have hit our already hurting community deeply.
Marching alongside up to 100,000 Minnesotan’s on Friday January 23rd during the Economic Blackout ICE OUT MARCH, was powerful, heartwarming, and gave me an overwhelming sense of hope that as a community we have the power to stand up against this fascist regime, and shout loudly that immigrants are welcome here.
The following morning, this feeling of hope was annihilated following the brutal assassination of Alex Pretti in broad daylight by ICE agents, in front of Glamdoll Donuts while he was trying to assist a woman who had been shoved to the ground by ICE.
Instead of cowering in fear and hopelessness, Minnesotans have come together even stronger and more unified.
Because WE ARE stronger together.
We are Minnesotans, we are used to harsh winters - - and we aren’t afraid of a little ICE.
How Can You Help?
There are SO MANY ways you can be helping Minnesota and the Minneapolis community. If protesting and marching aren’t your thing,
donate food/ supplies
pick up and deliver food / supplies for neighbors/ community
donate money
volunteer
CALL your reps (using the 5 calls app makes it incredibly easy)
Show up for your community, for our community.
Every bit helps. Do something. Take Action (real helpful action, not performative, not to escalate tensions).
* I often post on the unruly women instagram of how to get involved in community efforts, I don’t have the bandwidth to post everywhere all of the time and I’m just re-sharing what the community non-profits and organizations are already putting together.
SO, PLEASE FOLLOW on Instagram:
And let me know if there are others I need to add!
*Still on the fence about what’s going on or think what’s happening won’t impact you because you’re privileged or because it’s not in your backyard yet? Educate yourself about what’s happening. Read real, reliable and factual new sources and not just what you see on social media or biased news outlets. Use your eyes, use your critical thinking skills, and for fucks sake just be a kind human, have courage, stand in your integrity and SPEAK UP.
