WHY VOLUNTEER with CLMTB Crew and Unruly Women?

Volunteering is a great opportunity to learn more about the areas we recreate in, about the work that goes into maintaining the trail systems we use, and to not only give back to the community but to become a part of the community and feel belonging.

Through my own experience helping to rebuild and maintain trail with MOCA / MORC, it has given me a better understanding of why the trail is built the way it is (example : why the rock is situated a certain way, or how the terrain leads to a specific feature) which in turn has led me to trust the trail and experience more joy while riding.

If you’ve ever wanted to get connected and give back, this is a great opportunity!

WHY is Unruly adding MTB trail work this year along with group rides?

  • I (Monica) have always wanted to learn how to build and maintain single track mountain biking building, it’s something I find interesting and also intimidating to get into and I know I’m not the only one who feels this way, so I want to help create a bridge to this experience and education for myself and others.

  • I feel one of the best ways to give back is to learn the amount of work that goes into building and how to maintain these trail systems - - the more we know about an outdoor space the more likely we are to speak up for it and protect it too.

  • I also think that by learning how the trails are built, it might further my understanding of the trail itself and improve my mountain biking skills by making it less intimidating by having more depth of understanding of the trail itself.
